Thanks for attending Branching Out 2026 – here is a handy cheat sheet to help you continue your mental health and wellness journey!
What we learnt
Tips for relational nature bathing, wherever you are on Earth:
- Stand or sit and take a few breaths with the place you are in
- Bring to mind your intention for stopping and introduce yourself to the place
- Listen with all of your outer and inner senses, welcoming what you notice as well as yourself
- Find something to pay closer attention to, play with, touch, sniff or follow
- Thank that something for sharing themselves with you
- Share your experience with another
Tips for Nature Drawing and Journaling to Promote Connection and Inner Calm:
- Before making art, take some time to allow nature to reveal itself to you by using all of your senses.
- Focus on being curious and the process of drawing and creating, rather than being focused on the end product.
- Be open to letting go to the process. We are all learning, there is no ‘right way’ to draw, only right intention.
- Draw what you see by looking more often at your subject than at your page.
- Begin by drawing large overall shapes and rechecking these before adding detail.
- Include writing into your work to note down what you’re curious about.
- Approach drawing, creating and writing in nature as a form of note-taking.
- Play and experiment with different media.
- Art making in nature is a gathering process, without leaving a footprint or harming what we are drawing.
- Return often to noticing your breathing, posture, senses, and thoughts while you are drawing to be present to your experience.
